چکیده
This paper provides an overview of speciication and implementation of an ASIC running under the acronym UTCLIENT that supports external clock synchronization by hardware. It incorporates an adder-based clock to maintain local time, facilities to timestamp packets containing synchronization data, interfaces to GPS receivers and provides moderate application support. This novel clock is distinguished by its ne grained rate adjustability and hardware support for linear continuous amortization.

NTI: A Network Time Interface M-Module for High-Accuracy Clock-Synchronization
This paper? provides a description of our Network Time Interface M-Module (NTI) supporting high-accuracy external clock synchronization by hardware. The NTI is built around our custom Universal Time Coordinated Synchronization Unit VLSI chip (UTCSU-ASIC), which contains most of the hardware support required for interval-based clock synchronization: A state and rate adjustable clock device with ...
متن کاملAn ASIC Supporting External Clock Synchronization for Distributed Real-Time Systems
Designing clock synchronization algorithms for distributed real-time systems based on packet networks requires to decide on the amount and functionality of proper hardware support. Targeting a 1s precision and similar accuracy measures in case of external UTC supply from GPS-receivers, this paper describes pertinent features of a peripheral device called UTCSU manufactured as an ASIC. The most ...
متن کاملPhysical Layer Ethernet Clock Synchronization
Clock synchronization is a service widely used in distributed networks to coordinate data acquisition and actions. As the requirement to achieve tighter synchronization accuracy arose, protocols like the Precision Time Protocol introduced hardware timestamping, shifting the point where the timestamp is drawn from the application layer twards the physical layer. However, the spread of the synchr...
متن کاملOptimal Deterministic Remote Clock Estimation in Real-Time Systems
In an OPODIS’06 paper, we laid down the foundations of a real-time distributed computing model (RT-Model) with non-zero duration computing steps, which reconciles correctness proofs and realtime schedulability analysis of distributed algorithms. By applying the RT-Model to the well-known drift-free internal clock synchronization problem, we proved that classic zero step-time analysis sometimes ...
متن کاملA Model for Distributed Computing in Real - Time Systems
This work introduces a fault-tolerant real-time distributed computing model for messagepassing systems, which reconciles the distributed computing and the real-time systems perspective: By just replacing instantaneous computing steps with computing steps of non-zero duration, we obtain a model that both facilitates real-time schedulability analysis and retains compatibility with classic distrib...
